D60 vs Cidex-OPA | The effectiveness of reducing contamination of flexible endoscopes | NYU Langone Health

5/6/2023

Discover the finding of NYU Langone study.

Flexible laryngoscopes (FFLs) are routinely exposed to the mucus membranes of the nasal cavity and pharynx.

They are semi-critical instruments that require high-level disinfection (HLD).

Traditional disinfection methods include chemical immersion and automated endoscope reprocessors (AER).

-Both processes use chemical liquid agents, which are toxic, require lengthy disinfection/processing times, and are incompatible with endoscope material.

-These methods may be less suitable for large ENT settings that require rapid FFL turnover.

The aim of the study was to compare the bactericidal efficacy of various cleaning methods utilizing UV Smart D60 to a standard repocessing method using Cidex OPA.

The conclusion of the study shows that the decontamination protocols with UV Smart D60 were as effective in removing contamination from FFLs as the traditional method of using Cidex OPA.

UV Disinfection was found to be faster, simpler, less toxic, and more resource-efficient, which will increase compliance with FFL disinfection in patient care settings and enhance whealthcare worker and patient safety.
